Moonwake

In my work I mainly deal with the concept and theme of a spiritual journey and reconnecting with nature and developing a spiritual journey within myself. In this work I move away from the traditional camera and instead work directly with nature by using the technique of cyanotype. By using cyanotype I am able to connect with light and nature in new ways. Cyanotype is a beautiful old process from the 1840’s that was originally used by architects to transfer drawings which are now known as blueprints Each print is one of a kind and can never be created the exact same. While looking for objects to use in cyanotype prints my journey took me outside and discovering new things. I really had to investigate the things around me and imagine what these small parts of nature could become if put together and if they could become something greater. The process is almost therapeutic in a way and a new way of connecting with nature for me. I experiment with cyanotype on many different surfaces and objects. I decided to incorporate cyanotype into handmade Japanese book making. This allowed me to keep complete control over the work and allow the prints to have a natural feel to them rather than creating a book digitally.
